TITLE: Interpreter for the Deaf
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid NM Interpreting License (through NM Regulation and Licensing Department)
2. RID Certification OR
3. EIPA Performance Score of 4.0 or above
OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION: To facilitate the conveyance of information to and from Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, employees and parents including concrete information and the social and emotional content of information.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates in a manner commensurate with students' age, maturity and academic abilities.
- Interprets the location and times designated and makes adjustments to scheduling as requested to meet students', employees' and/or partents' needs.
- Refers questions and concerns regarding Deaf/Hard of Hearing students to approprieate program personnel or to school officials.
- Assumes position for interpreting to allow students to see both the speaker and the interpreter.
- Uses appropriate signing methodologies to ensure the most comprehensive understanding for the majority of Deaf/Hard of hearing students in the classroom.
- Participates in IEP meetings as requested by the IEP Team.
- Assumes additional responsibilities to support the mission oft he district as appropriate.
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year to be in accordance with current schedule for 189-day employees. Salary to be determined by individual training and experience level on current Assistant Paraprofessional Salary Schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordace with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
PHYSICAL LEVEL RATING: This position will require the employee to function at a "medium" physical capacity as defined by Workman's Compensation statutes. "Medium" physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
